Here’s the first of the Cornerstone Hub’s quick chats with the key people behind the stunning Cornerstone development.
Bridgecore’s Philip Skottowe has been instrumental in bringing parties together and realising the vision for one of South East’s most prestigious new office buildings.
Bridgecore was the perfect fit for the project as Philip, a keen mountaineer in his spare time, reveals:
“My first contact came in June 2014 when I was approached by Andrew Osborne from Vail Williams who was acting for Elekta. The opportunity was to partner with Elekta in creating a new office campus environment for their UK headquarters. I recognised this as an exceptional opportunity and by mid September we had been selected by Elekta as their partner.
“My specific role was to appoint and manage the delivery team including architect, engineers, lawyers and consultants and complete the financial agreement between Elekta, Bridgecore and the Santander Pension Fund through their fund manager at LaSalle Investment Management. This was 15 months of hard graft! But we got the deal over the line and it was great to see construction start in January 2016. And when you look at the progress now I can see this will be an outstanding workplace for Elekta to continue their wonderful work.
Philip describes Cornerstone as a trophy project. The description isn’t used lightly. It reflects the building’s significance to the region. And the exciting prospect of more global healthcare innovation once Elekta moves in.
Philip continues: “Cornerstone is a trophy project for a couple of key reasons. First of all there is the fabulous work that Elekta do. At every level you see the belief in the product. I’ve enjoyed a close and productive working relationship with Michael Easton and Gary Hill at Elekta.
“It makes a huge difference to work with like-minded and savvy people. There’s no doubt this has contributed to the project’s success so far.
“Then there’s the building itself of course. The architects RH Partnership and TP Bennett have done a fabulous job. Thanks to their design and creativity with the fit out, Cornerstone will become a worthy gateway building for Manor Royal.
“And, with the expertise of Kier Construction, Cornerstone sets a new benchmark in quality for office buildings in the South East as a whole.
“The main reception and atrium alone will be spectacular. This element of the building alone is 5,000 square foot with two suspended walkways. The creative design and scale of the building sets it apart; 150,000 square feet in total when the second phase is complete.
“When you combine the scale and quality with the innovative vision then you begin to realise the incredible legacy value of the project.
“It will be the perfect location for the global hub of excellence. And I expect it to become established as a globally significant venue.
“When you realise the impact the project is going to have – it is no wonder we are all so proud to have played our part.”
