The people. Our current site has a history in cancer pioneering going back almost 70 years. Such history in a relatively new area of medical science is rare.
As an international company we are able to look around the world, we have other facilities in Germany and China, but we wanted to continue our success in Crawley. Our future global focus on cancer care and treatment will be at Crawley. This will provide both stability and a host of new opportunities for all our staff for many years to come.
Crawley has made a significant contribution to saving countless lives in the battle against cancer and that has brought growing recognition for Crawley from around the world. We are proud to be a key part of that history, but more importantly in keeping Crawley a key part of the future of oncology too.
Fleming Way, Manor Royal
After considering all the options, the home of our oncology business is Fleming Way on the Manor Royal Business District. We have consistently invested in our site here but we need a new flexible modern site to house our teams of engineers, scientists, service, clinicians and customer facing professionals.
The Cornerstone site on the entrance to Manor Royal Business District is key.
Fleming Way – London Road
After reviewing the Crawley and Manor Royal Business District, we approached Crawley Borough Council to help them further understand how our aspirations for a modern new campus complex could contribute towards achieving the vision for a new enhanced Manor Royal Business District.
It became apparent that the former derelict industrial area was ideal for redevelopment and immediately adjacent to Elekta headquarters in Fleming Way. Crawley Borough Council have been very supportive to ensure priority is given to high quality employment opportunities.
The 5 acres site, about three miles north of the centre of Crawley, was bought in summer 2013 in a £4.2 million deal handled by property adviser Vail Williams from owner-manager and developer of industrial property company Segro.
Why this site?
There are a number of reasons why we chose the Fleming Way site.
The planning policy for this area encourages aspirational, modern new eco- friendly building development
A large percentage of Elekta employees are local and the location is ideal for expansion and minimal disruption or possible relocation in workforce. It is also ideal for longer term local recruitment
The Fleming Way site is ideally located at a prominent location at the “gateway” business centre to Crawley
The site is easily accessed via major roads and well served by public transport
It is within easy walking distance of shops and food outlets on London Road- which will not only help us to attract and retain staff, but will increase footfall to those existing traders
